DIVERSITY IN MORALS

"Many problems of modern society cannot be solved by laws and the legal system because moral behavior cannot be legislated."

System In the present time the world is moving towards modernization and globalization in which a lot of different communities with different cultural and traditional backgrounds are coming together. This era of time has brought together the whole lot of different backgrounds with different moral values to come together. These different morals are often found contradicting each other rising to some major conflicts.

In the present time morality can not be well defined. Indeed it is more of a relative term. Morals are the code of conduct and the beliefs that are accepted out of any individual in any particular society and culture. Legalizing morals in a specific well defined way is not the option as moral behavior varies from person to person and basically depends on the upbringing and acculturation. Most of the problems in today’s society are dealing with the different perception of morals.
Let us take a few examples of the problems that the society is facing today.
·        Abortion. For some it is an immoral act to kill a life as in a few religions it is considered sinful to do so. Others think that keeping the baby and not being able to give him or her proper lifestyle and facility as an act of immorality. So the both options that is in favor of or against abortion are extreme points in the line of conduct. Both are justified according to the respective morals.
·        Homosexuality. Is one of the serious issue in today’s time most of the people find that same gender relationship is absolutely against the law of nature and is somewhat like going against the god himself and is an absolutely immoral. On the other hand people who advocate this behavior think that love don’t have any boundaries nor even gender or social stigma and find nothing harmful or hate able in it, love in any form is love and god can never be against it. And this justify how they are not being immoral
I somewhat agree to the above issue. Most of the problems of the recent times in society are dealing with the undefined lines of morality. And law and legal cannot define morality.

I agree that moral behavior varies from person to person and depends on the upbringing and acculturation.
But the examples chosen were not appropriate. Especially the case of Homosexuality.
First of all "What is the law of nature? & Who decides the law of nature?" I guess at this point no one is sure. So saying Homosexuality is wrong on the basis of laws of nature is totally a wrong assumption.
Homosexuality existed from a long time back in every culture. It only this time they have come out and demanded their rights.
Whats are Morals?
Morals are something which stops us doing things which will harm others.
What harm are they doing to us?
1.Some will say this will stop human race. But not all of are born homosexual. Also most of the people did not marry either. Why they are not blamed? Also many homo couples are adopting children. Also a discovery is in progress for same sex reproduction by some Japanese scientists . Now do not argue over this discovery because if
1. You are religious. How? You must have read Mahabharata .. in which pandvas were born out of blessings.
2. You believe in Science. Then you will not argue either.
Sorry for taking too much time on homosexuality but it was just to make some points clear. Also it has been passed by our Law System. So one thing is sure that it is not a crime.
Morals are something which can be easily learned and easily forgotten. But morals should never be preached. Rather our young generations should be taught and brought up in such a environment that morals grow from within, instead of planting them from outside.

Homosexuality is certainly falling under this heading!

As it is a relative act of morals, some take it immorally and for others it is not the case. Personally, I am not against homosexuality, but in the upper post I have been equivocal while writing.

You defined morals as something “Morals are something which stops us doing things which will harm others.”
In case of homosexuality no one is being harmed. So it is not immoral, apart some of the purist may take it personal and call it cultural harm (cultural harm is an emotional harm isn’t it?)

You sound ambiguous too; as you yourself are not able take the extreme purist side.
We can blabber a lot about the topic by relating it with religion, scientific research, morals etc but the world contemporary has no firm law of belief to this. It has been accepted in a few nations but is still a taboo in most.

This year in Delhi High Court has decriminalized the homosexuals. It has amended the IPC Section 377 to decriminalize the homosexuality and said that being a gay is not a crime. It also said that the equal rights should be given to the homosexuals and all minorities should be included in the Indian constitution.

Later a statement was given to the court by government telling homosexuality as a crime and if they it will disturb the law and order situation and might create unnecessary problems in the society.

The Supreme Court came up supporting high court’s verdict

Delhi is not the only city to take this step in the world. Surely in future more and more states/ countries will consider the issue. As the morals are being changed form time to time.

The topic of homosexuality is certainly counting on present time law and morals.
